The responsibilities of Student Liaisons are to engage in dialogue with faculty, offer perspectives and insights as a student, and share relevant information with their respective student groups to maintain transparency and communication between faculty and students. Student Liaisons are elected by their peers each year.
MA Student Liasion
Kala Coyan-McClure
Kala Coyan-McClure (they/them/theirs) currently serves as the MA Cohort liaison and intends to graduate in Spring 2025. As the Coordinator for Student Leadership Development in the Office of Student Life’s Department of Leadership & Community Engagement, they supervise the Student Leadership Advocates, support the Mount Leadership Society Scholars program, and manage Leadership Week, Leadership Awards, and LeaderShape Institute. In addition to these responsibilities, they often facilitate professional and personal development workshops for students across campus. A pending Double Buckeye, Kala graduated from The Ohio State University in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in French and minors in Higher Education & Student Affairs and Women, Gender & Public Policy.
EdD Student Liaison
Anna Stewart
Anna Stewart MSW, LISW-S (she/her) is the Assistant Director of Field Education and Community Lecturer in the College of Social Work at The Ohio State University and has been with the college since 2014. She received both her BSSW and MSW degrees from OSU in social work. Anna began her career in community mental health working with children and adults, focusing on clients with complex trauma. Prior to joining the college full time in 2014, Anna worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital as a pediatric medical social worker in Neonatal Intensive Care and Primary Care settings. Since her start at the college, Anna has worked to support the social work program at the Columbus Free Clinic, a student run free health clinic, which also serves as a field practicum site for both undergraduate and graduate social work students. In addition to her work with the free clinic, Anna has interests in supporting social work practice in higher education and addressing race-based trauma for students, faculty, and staff at predominantly white institutions. Anna is also a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Trauma Studies in Education and sits on the board for a local non-profit organization. A consistent thread through her professional and educational pursuits is a focus on addressing and increasing equity and access to supportive services and increasing trauma informed practices in higher education specifically for students with minoritized identities.
PhD Student Liaison
Mianmian Fei
Mianmian Fei (she/her) is a third-year Ph.D. student in the program. She also serves as a Graduate Research Associate at QualLab, the College’s qualitative research center, and as an Editorial Assistant for The Review of Higher Education. Her research interests focus on international and comparative higher education, qualitative methodology, and the sociology of education. Mianmian holds a B.A. in Anthropology and Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University and an M.A. in Anthropology and Sociology from the Geneva Graduate Institute. Before pursuing her Ph.D., she worked for the UNESCO International Bureau of Education and the Science Consulate of Switzerland in China. Outside of research, Mianmian enjoys cooking, traveling, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, and attending fitness classes.
